Happy New Year!

Welcome back, everybody, and Happy Year of the Tiger!

I hope you had a good break. Just about another month to go, now. I had my first New Year in Japan since 1999-2000. I stayed in Tokyo and did traditional things: eating buckwheat noodles on New Year's Eve, visiting Shinto shrines at midnight, eating traditional New-Year foods in lacquered boxes... I like New Year's time in Japan -- it's very peaceful and quiet, like Christmas in the U.S.

How did you spend your holidays?

  4. @ Minami: That's exactly why I do like New Year's in Japan! It's so quiet and traditional. However, if you want crowded, try Asakusa on New Year's Day! But I know what you mean. A good, rockin' countdown party on New Year's Eve is a lot of fun, too.
